…As sculpture goes, there is surely a lot of reason in what you say, Halinka; changing the subject* would open many doors before me, and I am well aware of this, but, Halinka, it is really hard for me to switch to something different, though I know the price I pay for sticking to the domain of religion. The main misfortune is that in my sculptures people see the divine and not the earthly world; I don’t carve people as such, but their eternal features such as suffering, pain, dignity, love, thought…
